Dallas-based testing and assessment software company ExamSoft has acquired Liftupp, a spin-out company from the University of Liverpool.
Liftupp is an education software development platform, created in 2009 by individuals from the University of Liverpool's Dental School to improve the student experience through personalised education to ensure all aspects of the curriculum of study were taught and appropriately assessed.
In 2015, a spin-out company was formed to expand the Liftupp product for use in new markets with continued support from the university’s clinical academic teams.
Professor Anthony Hollander, pro-vice-chancellor for research and impact at the University of Liverpool, said: “Liftupp is an excellent example as to how universities can transfer their research and teaching activities into tangible products, for the benefit of society.
“Liftupp was nurtured within the University of Liverpool’s Dental School for many years before spinning out, and was a response to a real world need to enhance student teaching and learning. We’re delighted with the success of Liftupp, and we wish the company well, we believe it has a bright future as part of the ExamSoft family.”
Liftupp managing director David James said: “Liftupp was created by educators for educators. Being welcomed into the ExamSoft family provides us the resources and platform to continue our tradition of supporting education and educators around the world.”
Sebastian Vos, chief executive of ExamSoft, said: “Health sciences education programmes need unique tools that fit the specific challenges that they face. The Liftupp products are designed with these challenges in mind, and we’re excited to find new ways to support these clients. We also will look to find ways to enhance these technologies through ExamSoft’s offering to serve an even wider variety of clients.”
